Consumer Safety Officer

Duties: Consumer Safety Officer, GS-696-05,  with the Food and Drug Administration  assist with inspections in various commodities regulated by the Food and Drug administration such as food, drugs and medical devices.  They also assist in special investigations such as tracing reports of contamination and collecting appropriate samples for laboratory examination. This is just a brief summary of the duties perform for this position.

Starting Salary: $31,628 to $48,682 Per Year

Basic Requirements: Note: a transcript will have to be submitted.

Applicants must have a degree that included at least 30 credits in one or a combination of the following subjects:
Biological sciences, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, or related scientific fields that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety officer work.  Up to 8 credits in statistics, or course work that included the principles, theory, or practical application of computers or computer programming can be used as part of the 30 credits required.

Or

A  Combination of education and relevant experience.

Additional Requirements:

(1) U.S. Citizenship required to be hired.

(2) Must have a background investigation.

(3) Must have a valid Driver’s  License .

(4)  Mobility agreement will be required.

(5) Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to meet physical requirements.
