Firefighter – FDNY

Duties: Firefighters with the City Of New York  are responsible for controlling  and extinguishing fires. They also provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and  enforce laws, ordinances, rules and regulations relating to their duties. They perform Fire Safety Education activities and inspections. New York City Firefighters are Peace officers. Their enforcement duties include  issuing criminal court summonses and vacate orders. They also perform other duties as required. 

Starting Salary : $43,904 per year.

Top Pay is :          $85,292 per year (Upon completing 5  years of service).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • By the date of appointment, you must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and:
    1. 15 college semester credits earned as a result of satisfactory completion of course work at a college or university; or
    2. full-time U.S. military service with an honorable discharge;or
    3. 6 months of full-time, satisfactory paid work experience.

  • Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of the City of New York or of Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, Rockland or Putnam Counties.
  • English Language Requirement: You must be able to understand and be understood in English.
  • United States citizenship is required at the time of appointment.
  • Additional Requirements must be met.
