Train Operator – MTA NYC Transit

Duties:  Train Operators  with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”)  under supervision, have direct responsibility for the safe, timely and proper operation of MTA New York City Transit multi-unit subway cars, subway service cars and trains. 

Starting Salary :  $32.51 per hour

Written Examination Qualifications

Education, Experience and License Requirements:
By the last day of the application period,

  • you must have a four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
  • 1. A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York; and
  • 2. One year of full-time satisfactory work experience that has been continuous with one employer.

Appointment Qualifications

To be appointed, candidates who have met all of the above requirements must also:

Medical Requirement: Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Train Operator.

Drug Screening Requirement: You must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed, and if appointed, you will be subject to random drug and alcohol tests for the duration of your employment.

 English Requirement: You must be able to understand and be understood in English.

Residency: New York City residency is not required for this position.

Oral Proficiency Assessment: If you pass the multiple-choice test you may be scheduled to take the qualifying oral proficiency assessment as vacancies occur.
