Why A Civil Service Job?

If you are looking to get rich quick, working for the government is the wrong place.
However, if you are looking for a job with a good salary, excellent benefits and
a secure pension, then you are looking in the right direction.

The salaries of government employees have dramatically increased in the last
ten years. Salaries can range from the mid-twenties to six figures, not counting
overtime income.

Government employees receive very liberal benefits. Such as health care,
dental and vision benefits. Some jobs start with 4 weeks annual leave for the
first year, plus paid sick leave and paid holidays.

When it comes to pensions, this depends on your actual job. Most law
enforcement/public safety jobs give you the option to retire after 20 or 25 years, no
matter what age you are. While in civilian jobs you usually have to work for
30 years to receive a full pension. However, after working about 5 to 10 years
you are vested and will be able to collect a reduced pension when you reach
retirement age.

  1. I would like to find a job in the syracuse area. something like ordering parts for state vehicles in a counter position. Like for the Thruway Authority garages where vehicles are sent for service and repairs.

    1. Hi Jeff, you can contact the Thruway Authority at Syracuse Area, 315-438-2386, syrrecruiter@thruway.ny.gov .
      Currently they are hiring for
Seasonal Thruway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 & Trainee 3 positions. I would recommend looking at other state agencies as well, since many of them also maintain their own vehicles.

    1. If you need any advice to help you achieve this goal, please feel free to ask me any question.
