Duties: Parole Officers and Parole Officers Trainees with New York State are peace officers. Their duties involve providing supervision and guidance to individuals released from state and local correctional facilities. They perform both social work and law enforcement functions. This includes the arrest and custody (including transportation) of offenders. They also perform field visits to the residences, programs, and places of employment of offenders.
Starting Salary : Parole Officers Trainees – $40,507
Parole Officers – $62,242

Requirements:
To be appointed, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be at least 21 years of age.
- On or before June 10, 2017, you must have a bachelor’s degree. If you expect to receive your degree by August 31, 2017, you can be admitted to the written test.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- New York State residency is not required to take the written test, but New York State residency is required to accept and continue employment.
- New York State unrestricted Drivers Licence.
- Additional requirements have to met before you are hired.
