Duties: Police Officers with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are responsible for enforcing State and local Laws . They are responsible for the safety and security of visitors to five airports, four bi-state bridges and two tunnels, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the PATH rail system, and the regional seaports in New York and New Jersey and the World Trade Center site.

Starting Salary :

The starting salary for a Police Officer is $32,361

  • After 1 year of service the annual salary increases to $51,449
  • Salary step increases for up to 5 years of service
  • Top pay annual salary after 5 years of service is $90,000

NOTE: A random selection to take the written exam will be conducted from those who apply. There is no guarantee that any candidate will be selected to take the written exam or considered for any of the other steps in the selection process.

  • $20 Physical Performance Test fee
  • $40 Background Investigation fee

Requirements:

To apply to take the written exam a candidate must have:

  • A High School Diploma or GED

If a candidate passes the written test, they must have completed either of the following by the date an invitation is made to continue in the evaluation process:

  • A minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university or
  • An honorable discharge from the United States Military after serving a minimum of two full years of continuous active duty
  • You must be at least 20 years of age to take the exam and not older than 35 years at time of appointment.

Requirements to be appointed:

(1) U.S. Citizenship required

(2) Must have a background investigation

(3) Must have a valid State Driver’s License

(4)  Additional requirements required to be hired.
